Dylan Hartley says he regrets missing a couple of chances to meet his boyhood idol Jonah Lomu and the recently-retired ex-England skipper also claims he is still 'pining' for rugby.
Hartley, 34, hung up his boots in November 2019 due to a chronic knee injury after 97 caps for England.
The Rotorua-raised hooker took part in a Lessons From A Life in Sport profile in The Times newspaper that he was still missing the game.
'I long to play rugby, I absolutely pine for it,' he said, advising readers to enjoy sport for as long as they could.

Asked about his boyhood idol, Hartley replied: 'Jonah Lomu. What other option did a Kiwi have?’’
He admitted never meeting Lomu featured as his singlemost regret. 'I had two opportunities: first when I was 19, but I didn’t want to appear a fanboy. Then he came to Northampton as part of his final speaking tour. I was otherwise engaged.'
Hartley said he grew up with two brothers 'to fight and play with'.
'Like any good Kiwi house, we always had a rugby ball around.
'We kept sheep, and we would hone our rugby skills by tackling them.'
Hartley moved to England as a teenager after playing for the Rotorua Boy's High School first XV.
He had a season with Worcester, but arrived at the Northampton Saints in 2006 - and never left, captaining the side for several seasons.
